Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl, what you give up for Lent changes lives

CRS Rice Bowl makes it easy for educators, parishes and families to integrate Lenten spirituality and Catholic social teaching into their classrooms and homes where the foundation for a lifetime of faith begins. In 2015, the Center for Mission began administrating the CRS Rice Bowl program for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Whether educators at your school are able to teach one lesson per week from the CRS Rice Bowl Educator’s Guide–or if they only have 10 minutes to spare–CRS Rice Bowl is an excellent way to let your students experience the connection between Lenten prayer, fasting, and almsgiving and their capacity to change the lives of people around the world and in their own communities.

CRS has a wonderful website full of ideas, recipes from around the world, stories of people who have benefited from Rice Bowl, videos and a variety of family activities.  Of course, rice bowls for collecting almsgiving, are also available.

25% of the total collection from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis goes towards hunger relief and alleviation of poverty programs in our archdiocese. The Center for Mission coordinates awarding of  financial grants to specific archdiocesan organizations providing hunger relief.
