How we care for creation is absolutely tied to how we treat our environment, creation of God. Pope Francis states, “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents” (Laudato Si, 14). The Center for Mission has created and supervises a regional Care for Creation team reflecting this need to care for our environment. In June of 2023, the Care for Creation team also started the Laudato Si’ Movement Chapter of Minnesota to support the other dioceses in Minnesota as they build their Care for Creation ministries as well as working on projects which affect people throughout the state. These cooperative efforts are vital to understand each others’ cultures, gifts, and passion for the gift of God’s creation.

The team consists of parish volunteer leaders from the Archdiocese of St Paul and Minneapolis. The team’s mission is to educate and promote environmental concerns, as tied to Catholic social teachings, and encourage activities related to the mission. Certainly, the Pope’s encyclical, Laudato Si, provides insight and inspiration for Care for Creation activity. Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, Laudate Deum, provides added urgency to the insight and inspiration given in Laudato Si’.
