Missionary Cooperation Plan

Over more than 20 years, the Center for Mission has developed a Missionary Cooperation Plan
process for both hosting parishes and visiting missionaries.  It is important to follow the process outlined
below to eliminate confusion and possible misunderstandings.

Hosting Parish Roles:

  • Parishes agree to host a missionary coop speaker one weekend/year and take up a collection at all weekend masses.
  • Parishes will be informed of the mission assignment in January, which will include contact information for your assigned missionary.
  • Parishes will be contacted by the missionary speaker regarding appeal arrangements such as appeal dates, lodging, meals, transportation if necessary, language requirements at parish and other special instructions.
  •  Parishioners writing checks should be directed to write the check to their parish NOT to the mission organization.
  • The parish is responsible for recording individual donations in ParishSoft so that parishioners receive tax credit for their donation.  Parishes are responsible to issue a check and mail it to the Center for Mission for allocation to the speaker’s diocese, congregation or mission organization. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Speakers are not allowed to solicit money directly to be paid to them at Mass.
  • Parishes may request to have priest as the missionary speaker to preside during the weekend Masses. This needs to be discussed with Mickey Friesen in advance so an appropriate mission representative is assigned.  We will do our best to accommodate this request however, cannot guarantee a missionary priest will be available.

Missionary Speaker Roles:

  • Agree to make appeals to parishes in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis through Center for Mission only.  NO DIRECT SOLICITING OF FUNDS IS ALLOWED.
  • Speakers from outside the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis must provide a Testimonial of Suitability form which is provided by the Center for Mission.
  • Once the speaker receives an acceptance letter from the Center for Mission, they (the speaker) are responsible to make first contact with assigned parishes to set up details of visit; appeal dates, lodging, meals, transportation if necessary, language requirements at parish and other special instructions.
  • Speakers need to re-contact parish three weeks before scheduled appeal to confirm details of visit.
  • Speakers may not bring, distribute or collect their own envelopes, or other methods of donation collection at parishes.
  • All collected donations during appeal come to the Center for Mission for allocation to speakers’ organization, congregation or diocese.
