About The Center for Mission

From its origins in 1935 to its role today within the Pontifical Mission Societies, the Center for Mission helps the Church live its global call to evangelization. We unite parishes, individuals, and mission communities in shared prayer, learning, and support for Christ’s work around the world.

Dedicated to bridging our mission efforts at home and around the world.

The Center for Mission is an official office of the U.S. Pontifical Mission Societies which represents the Congregation for Evangelization in Rome.

History
In 1935, the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis welcomed its own missionary organization, known as The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to administrate and coordinate missionary activities within the Archdiocese and on behalf of missionary activities of the Catholic Church throughout the world. For over 70 years this mission society gathered material and spiritual support for Catholic missions and initiated various activities and projects. As these mission activities broadened in scope and breadth, the office was renamed in 2001 as “The Center for Mission” to clearly reflect today’s activities.

Purpose
The Center for Mission exists to bridge the Archdiocese with the global and local mission of Jesus Christ. We  promote and coordinate the global mission outreach of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis cooperating with individuals, parishes and more than 1150 dioceses in 120 countries around the world. We help to foster a universal missionary spirit focused on sharing and cross-cultural growth among the Catholic faithful and coordinate spiritual and material support for mission activities at home and abroad.

We invite you to explore just a few of the activities and programs from the Center for Mission.

Opportunities for youth and adults to learn about what mission is, the primacy mission has in our faith, and learn about our brothers and sisters overseas. The Center for Mission offers activities and programs throughout the year for schools and parishes to use to animate religious education.

Missionary Cooperation Plan>>
This is our program to introduce representatives from mission organizations, dioceses and congregations to our archdiocese by assigning a speaker for a weekend at every parish.

The Center for Mission represents Catholic Relief Services in our archdiocese.  CRS is rooted in the Catholic social principle of global solidarity and strives to offer bridges for U.S. Catholics to reach beyond their own national borders and to engage the global concerns.

Center for Mission Newsletters>>
Bi-annual publication that keeps our subscribers aware of upcoming events and trips and personal stories of individuals experiencing the transformational benefit of mission.

The office of the Center for Mission does not receive funding from the archdiocese or PMS, but relies solely on the generosity of our donors to enable us to continue providing mission activity for parishes and individuals.
